The Golden Box was an installation we commissioned from artist Bouke de Vries. As only a fraction of the original Croome collection remains at Croome, there was no chance of creating traditional displays even if we had wanted to. The room that had been brightly painted by the Hare Krishna community that once live at Croome seemed like the ideal space for displaying the brightly coloured French porcelain made in the Sèvres manufactory in the 1760s. Bouke referenced the spiritual element of the Hare Krishna community by creating a shrine in this room, highlighting the colours and idea of valued objects.
